Privacy Policy

Effective June 4, 2026

Brooke's Plate is a calm, social meal-planning app. This policy explains, in plain language, what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible: there are no ads, we don't sell your data, we don't process payments, and your feeds are simple and chronological, with no profiling algorithm deciding what you see.

Information we collect

Account information. When you sign up we store your email address and the profile details you choose to provide: display name, @handle, and optionally a profile photo, short bio, and general location. We support email/password and Google sign-in; if you use Google, we receive your basic profile (name, email, avatar) from Google to create your account.

Content you create. The recipes, meal plans, posts, comments, and reactions you add. You control who can see each recipe and plan through per-item visibility settings (private by default).

Limited technical & usage data.To keep the service running and to understand how it's used, we may collect basic, non-sensitive usage signals such as the approximate region you sign in from, general search terms within the app, time spent in the app, and standard device/browser information. We use this in aggregate to improve the product, not to build advertising or behavioral profiles.

What we don't collect or do

  • We don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
  • We don't run advertising or share your data with advertisers.
  • We don't collect payment or financial information.
  • We don't use algorithmic profiling. Feeds are chronological and the same for everyone you follow.
  • We don't intentionally collect sensitive personal information (health, etc.) beyond what you voluntarily put in a recipe or profile.

How we use your information

  • To provide and operate the app: your account, recipes, plans, and social features.
  • To keep the service secure and prevent abuse or spam.
  • To understand usage in aggregate and improve features.

How information is shared

With other people, only as you choose. Content is private by default. A recipe, plan, or post becomes visible to others only when you set it to a shared visibility (e.g. followers or public) or post it to a feed.

With service providers. We use Google Firebase (authentication, database, hosting, and storage) to run the app, so your data is stored and processed on Google Cloud infrastructure on our behalf. We don't share your data with anyone else except where required by law.

Your choices and controls

  • Edit your profile and change any item's visibility at any time.
  • Delete your account yourself, anytime, from your profile's edit page. Deletion removes your login and anonymizes your profile; recipes that other people rely on (for example, one saved in someone else's plan) are archived rather than hard-deleted so their plans don't break, and your posts are removed.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we promptly remove or anonymize your personal data as described above. Some information may persist briefly in backups before being overwritten.

Cookies

We use only the essential cookies/local storage needed to keep you signed in and run the app. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Children

Brooke's Plate isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
